Jack Murphy

Apprentice Solicitor

Jack Murphy is an Apprentice Solicitor at McIvor Farrell Solicitors. He completed his solicitor training at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies in 2025, having graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2020 with a degree in Law with Politics.

Jack works across several key practice areas including Human Rights Law, Criminal Defence, Prison Law, Housing Rights, Immigration and Legacy Litigation. He has a strong track record of representing individuals who are among the most vulnerable in our society, including those facing detention, marginalisation, or systemic disadvantage.

Jack has developed a particular interest in Prison Law, acting regularly on behalf of clients in custody across all prisons in this jurisdiction. He advises on issues and represents clients in custody relating to all breaches of prisoners’ rights. Jack is known for his thorough, rights-focused approach to prison representation and is a passionate advocate for reform and accountability within the prison system.

He also represents individuals and families facing eviction, homelessness, and housing insecurity. His work is grounded in a strong belief in the fundamental right to housing and access to justice for all.

Jack is deeply committed to legacy litigation and the pursuit of truth and justice for families affected by the conflict on the island of Ireland. He assists in cases concerning historical state wrongdoing, Article 2 ECHR violations, and other human rights breaches.

Outside of his legal practice, Jack is a Director on the Board of Belfast Homeless Services, a frontline charity working to support people experiencing homelessness in the city. His work with the organisation complements his legal advocacy and reflects his wider commitment to community engagement and social justice.
